This Privacy Policy explains how Where is it? - Save Places ("the App") handles your information. The App is designed with a privacy-first approach: your data remains strictly on your local device.
1. Information Collection and Use
a. Location Data
To help you save and remember specific locations (e.g., where you parked your car or saved a spot), the App requests access to your device's precise location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION).
- Foreground Access Only: Location data is accessed strictly in the foreground and on-demand (e.g., when you tap to save a location or use the app widget).
- No Background Tracking: The App does NOT collect location data in the background, nor does it track your movements continuously. Location requests automatically time out after a few seconds once a location is captured.
- No Tracking/Sharing: Your location is stored strictly on your device and is never sent to remote servers or shared automatically with third parties.
b. Camera Access
The App requests optional permission to use your device's camera (CAMERA) so you can attach photos to your saved locations.
- Photos taken are stored locally on your device.
- We do not upload your photos to external servers or access your external photo gallery/media storage.
2. Data Storage and Retention
All data created or captured by the App (including location coordinates, names, notes, and photos) is stored locally on your device using internal storage mechanisms (Room database and DataStore preferences).
- We do not operate a remote database, cloud storage, or backend server.
- We do not collect personal identifiers, user accounts, or login credentials.
3. Third-Party Services and Analytics
- No Ads or Trackers: The App contains no advertising SDKs (e.g., AdMob), analytics frameworks (e.g., Firebase Analytics), or user tracking SDKs.
- Internet Access: The Internet permission (
INTERNET) is strictly utilized for core operating dependencies, such as loading static image placeholders via internal Android libraries and utilizing system location resolution tools (e.g., Google Play Services / Geocoder). No user data is transmitted to external servers for profiling or commercial purposes.
4. Data Sharing and Transfer
You have full control over sharing your saved locations:
- If you choose to share a location or image, it is executed through an explicit, manual action using standard Android sharing mechanisms (e.g., opening a map link in Google Maps or sharing via third-party apps chosen by you).
- No data is automatically transferred, sold, or shared with third parties.
5. Data Deletion and Control
Because all data is stored locally on your device:
- You can delete individual saved locations directly within the App's History screen at any time.
- You can erase all App data completely by clearing the App's storage via your device's settings (Settings > Apps > Where is it? > Storage > Clear Data) or by uninstalling the App.
6. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Since no personal data or account registration is collected, the App is safe for general audiences.
